So figured I'd ask a couple years later... how are the "aftermarket" kits holding up years later...

I'm about ready to buy the A1 kit.... being 100 bucks is cheap to add some remote locks..

I looked at a1's pictures (3-4) of install but overall how hard is it to line up the actuators and install the power door locks? Where did everyone run the little control box? Behind the radio?

Thanks,
-Nigel

Figured I'd update.

I installed my aftermarket door actuators with an Avital 2101L. It's great. Unlock/locks via progressive feature that I setup. One push of the button and it unlocks only the driver side. Press it again within 15 seconds and it unlocks the passenger side.

Install wasn't bad. It was much harder for me because I had already covered my door panels with RAAMat and insolite for sound deadening. Looking back I should have installed these when I did that but hindsight is 20/20. Running the wires through the door grommet was a pain but you need a leader wire to pull the rest through, once you do that it's fine. As far as other connections it wasn't bad. If you have installed a radio you can do this install. I found that by removing the center portion of the truck (radio HVAC) and the passenger airbag I was able to run all wires and mount the control unit inside to the left of the air bag. One wouldn't even know it's there. All wires are hidden and sleeved for a clean appearance. Installed the LED for the unit by the passenger side defrost vent. I would have liked to install it in the middle but I didn't want to risk snapping that fragile piece. I snapped it once before and glued it back so didn't feel like doing that again.

Overall I'd say install was a 4 out of 10 for hardness. I had to cut a small hole on both doors so I could attach the locking pin that attaches to the factory lock rod.

IF one wanted power windows now would be the time to do it while doing locks... it struck my mind to do it but honestly I'm more than happy having wireless entry than power windows. I'd only really want it for the passenger side mainly because I can't reach it. Driver side is fine. With that being said though manual windows is fine for the truck.

If looking to do keyless entry, I'd recommend doing it!

I would have liked to have gone all OEM, but the cost in doing so would have been outrageous... Finding oem keyless entry brain, oem lock actuators, switches/panels...etc.

This whole thing cost me $35 to do only because I already had all wiring/relays/switches/heatshrink...etc. I ended up finding two door actuators in my "stuff" pile for some reason and only had to purchase the Avital 2101L which is the unit the 1Aauto uses.

Are you selling the tan door panels? Are they all power? Will they fit a 2005 Ranger 2Door regular cab?

Also have some tan door panels without the crank hole (power windows).
Hey Sheltonfilms! Do you still have the tan door panels? I know it has been a long time but I could really use them!

This is a perfect thread for me. 2002 Ranger XLT, I need to install remote keyless locks. I'm not electrically inclined, and need to know where the "box" being referred to lives in my truck for the wiring hookups. I can pay to have it done, and am somewhat mechanical, so I am tempted to jump in. saw the pics added from the website and they look doable. Its the electrical that worries me, especially as the doors may not be set up for the wiring as mentioned in other threads.
Also, Not a Ranger item, the author - Jwad00 is a Kia engineer. My wife's 2008 Kia Sportage remote locks quit actuating the rear hatch lock. I've done some digging, not enough to discover the remedy and hesitate to go to the shop. Might it just be a dead actuator in the rear hatch and is it a snap to repair. Sorry to combine the vehicles, but "locks" is the topic of my days of late. Thanks.

Have you looked in the "How-To's" ?

There is a Writeup about installing OEM Power Windows and only using a short portion of the Door Wiring Harness, but I am not sure about the Locks.

Go to the How-To section and search on power door locks or Installing Pwr Door Locks !

Luck to ya !
