[rant]

So yea... I took my Ranger out for the first time on the street in probably three months (I know I know, but it's not like I'm neglecting her) to get it washed (pay & spray, I won't let anybody else touch it) and make sure it's still fine to drive on the street (taking it to a charity thing tomorrow). With this new rear suspension there really isn't a place for a muffler that I have found yet, so off-road I run it without for now and instead of putting the ugly thing I do have back on I ran it without tonight. Bloody Hell that thing is annoying! I really don't know how anybody can stand the resonance through the cab. I mean, I'm no old fart, I love loud trucks/car and loud music, but this was just too much! How in the world do you guys do it?

VIDEO! ... post one!

My 2.3 is perty loud without a muffler under load (idle and no-load it sounds sexy)... I haven't heard a 4.0L w/o one before.

here's a text sound effect...

BAAAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAAA BAAAAAAAAAA

Add some raspy-ness to it and it's dead on for a 4.0.

with today's technology, doesn't removing your muffler (the newer models) make the truck run like crap?

I love the way my 4.0 sounds without the muffler, granted it's not for everyone but i love the sound.
It's 6:30 am, when daylight breaks i will post a vid.
Well it's daylight out but i can't figure out how to get the sound to work on my camara, if i can get it to work i will post it up.

LOL.. now that I'm middle aged I don't do that anymore. But shoot... I used to do that all the time! To me it was just added mass, added cost, and a source of back pressure. LOL... I've even been pulled over by LEO's and they did'nt know I did'nt have a muffler. It's all in how you drive.

Around where I live every once in a while I hear a kid w/o a muffler and I kinda smirk a little remembering the good ole days.

btw, I do have mufflers on the Lightning. But with 3" pipes and Bassani's my wife has to hope the dishes in the kitchen don't fall apart when I pull in or out of the garage.

I had mine off for a day or two and hated it even more than my glasspacks, but the sound wasn't that much different.

I hate it, believe me, but it'll have to stay off till I can find a another exhaust that I like.

it could be the fluid too. When the muffler has a high side opening, the fluid encased in the muffler will evaporate off, casuing a loud annoying sound. This is a more smooth sound though. Bad bearings sound all gurgling-like.

wait, did you just cut out the muffler and put a piece of exhaust pipe in its place? stock exit point? that's what i have an you can barely hear it but it gives it a decent rumble... maybe i drive too slow?

You can barely hear your truck with no muffler? I have a Flowmaster super 40 with it exiting under the license plate and I hear it fine.
