Icon2 need help and PS request for bedlined lower half

hey guys i looked and couldnt find a how to on putting a roll on bedliner on the lower half of my truck. also what are your guys opinions on putting it on my white truck with the set up i have. i have alot of tar stains on my truck that seem to get more and more frequent and i think this would be a good idea to help that and add a nice touch to the truck. whats your view also on doing this for a truck that i like to keep clean lookin. IMO it is kinda a mod that can look good either way. sorry if its confusing but its hard to type out.

two rolls of painters tape. Took maybe half a gallon of heculiner from the kit, probably less. Paint brush. Kit comes with paint roller. uhh i put newspaper all underneath so that when it dripped it would hit the paper.

For how I did it...(next post)

paint like three layers.. First one, let sit until tacky, then add a second layer, let sit til tacky, then third layer. when its nice and black pull off the tape carefully and itll come off perfectly.

Some tips as i remember them. be careful, the paint roller can fling some lil chunks. Acetone removes them easily or bug off too. use sandpaper or scrub brush to scratch paint, doesn't really matter. Make sure you do 3 layers so that its completely black. Mine needs another layer lol. Get under the bottom of the truck where you cant see(and clean it there too) so it doesnt get torn apart from the bottom. Mask off your wheel wells some. Take off your mudflaps. I surrounded the "stepside pads" with the tape cause i felt it was somehow easier than removing them and blah blah do whatever you want.

Your truck looks really good now, you could buy goo gone or goof off or whatever you want to remove tar. I do it all the time, 2 hours just to get all those ******* specs off.

thanks for that man... yea i like my truck now but il like to add to it. im just not diggin spending all that time with goo off for hours every couple weeks or so to get them off.

you guys this this will make the truck look to "rugged" and take away the clean look. i think it can go either way... what you think?

Hey guys so I have a classified add on here in which im selling a now kit. I found a guy that wants it and he works at a body shop. I don't need much work done so I was looking into painting my lower half black rather than putting a roll on bed liner. Im just worried with that roll on liner that it will fade bad and start to ot look good after awhile but I do like the rugged look of it. Now on the opposite side if I paint it it will not fade and always look clean and good. However it lags the rugged look. The whole reason im thinking about this is because I get alot of road tar that doesn't come off. I know goo gone will take it off but not for me. What do you guys think and you have any links or pics of a white truck with a black or grey painted lower half that's paint and not roll on liner??

The is a Stone Guard Paint that can be applied.
When I had my ’88 done, a while back, they put on this Stone Guard Paint to the lower half, same color but could be different, almost didn’t know it was there.

Well can you get it in black cuz I like the look of the two tone level 2s and stuff.
And was it smith like one of the clear bras you can get on the front of cars?

I really don’t know for sure about colored Stone Guard, it may be just a clear coating put on after painting, you will need to check if no one else comes in with info.

Sorry bout dat !

Durabak or Raptor liner. Both have UV protectant and hold up the best for DIY liners.

Umm..

Painting your lower half black would cost $$. Sure, liners can fade, I guess. You can always put UV protectant on them or another layer of liner. Also, why would paint always look clean and good when you currently dont like your paint because it doesnt look clean and good?

To finish, you don't have "unremovable tar" on your vehicle. Just man up, scrub harder. Or buy a serious tar remover that isn't goo gone. We all get tar spots on our vehicle and it usually just means you have to do a really good cleaning once a year.
