Let me first start by saying that all knowledge and everything else in this thread, i owe to Bob (rwenzing). He is an absolute genius and this project wouldn't be possible without his input.

I have a 1998 Ranger XL and it does not have cruise, I love cruise control and i missed it ever since i bought this truck. I talked to Bob about adding it and it can be done.

Here are the parts you will need, this applies to 98-03 Rangers according to the parts guy at the Ford dealership I work at

Steering wheel buttons: F87A-9D809-BA
Cruise control servo: XL2F-9C734-AA
Clockspring: F87Z-14A664-CC
3.0 servo cable (engine specific):
steering wheel trim panel with cutouts for cruise buttons
bracket for cruise servo cable to mount at throttle body

I need to make a junkyard run in the AM to get the throttle body bracket, and i will post the number for the cable as well tomorrow.

The cruise control should be operating by the end of the week!

you dont have the pigtail thats clipped to the inside of the passenger fender behind the washer bottle and infront of the blower motor?

I saw 2 '04-06 Ranger Cruise Control kits on ebay last night, bids starting at $19.99 for the entire kit including the steering wheel. Only issue is that they don't list the engine, but it wouldn't hurt to send them a message.

 

So you do not need the parts from my truck, yes/no?.........

no i wont, i talked to my buddy at a junkyard and he hooked me up. i got the brand new clockspring for free and a brand new gauge cluster lens for free from a guy i work with. so far i have $80 into this project

 

The '04+ rangers may be like my old man's '08 F-450 it's all in buying a new steering wheel the ford turn it on in the computer. That's what he did a week after he bought his truck.

 

that only applies to throttle by wire vehicles

Cruise control is sucessfully installed and operating. It took me about 45 mins and a total cost of $85

 

Awesome Justin. Now lets see if we can beat your install time on my torsion bars. Haha.

 

ill have to do them in 30 mins or less, with 10 people and no hoist it may be tough but we will try

 

Congrats on getting it installed and working, I could not own a vehicle without it. I use my CC everyday!

 

I'm kidding. I'd rather it take 5 hours to get it done right. I should know for sure if I have the day off by tomorrow.

As far as the CC, were all the wires there to begin with? Just needed plugging in and adding a few pieces? I'm glad it works. I know I love mine.

 

the CC was plug and play, the best mod i have done by far! im mad i waited two years, but thankful i have resources like RF, in particular Bob to help!
