I did a search and still can't find it...

How do I wire up the Explorer dome light with map lights to my 2004 4x4 EC XLT? It does not have the wiring already there for the map lights? Thanks!

oh man explorer...off the top of my head..normal light everythin should be there..

now it should be the same for the mustang..you gotta run new wires..run from map light..dimmer switch..so when you click up it turns on..door wire..so when you open door..its like 2-3 wires..bout 30 mins..not to hard..

i know htere is a how-to i just gotta find give me a few mins

I think hes talking about the dome light, not the overhead console.

The doom light is a 3 screw deal. Just remove and replace. If you have a reg cab i think you hafta have a mustang light.

Mine is an extra cab. Isn't there supposed to be an extra wire for the map lights? Or is it all there? I can't find anything else so I supposed I have to run a wire to make the map lights work. I hate not having map lights!!!!

Thanks guys.

in Rangers manufactured after about NOV 03 there is no constant power source at the interior cab light
you will have to run a power line up from the dash
the how to provides a line to cut, or you can pick another from the many switched or non switched power lines behind the dash
I ran mine from the fuse panel near the passenger kick plate up the A pilar to into the headliner
easy to do and the trim just pops on and off

What point did you tap into? This constant goes to the map lights only right? The ground is still through the screws in the cab though right?

Thanks.

yes exactly - constant power for map lights only
I just picked a live wire (un switched) running from the fuse box and put an inline 10 amp fuse in to protect against a grounding short
the screws into the cab roof provide your negative ground and the light works off the door switch (or panel switch)

Yea, that is all I needed to know. I was wondering what the guys without the wiring did just to be sure. Thanks!
