Instrument cluster lost power

1996 3.0 automatic 200k+ miles
While driving, speedo, tach, temp. gauge, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge etc... all lost power and a hot electrical smell filled the cabin. I have checked all fuses.(including the engine bay), torn apart the dash looking for burnt wiring and can't find anything. I'm kinda afraid to drive it in case something else causes a fire. It starts fine.
ideas?

Does anyone have a wiring diagram that shows a common wire that powers tach, speedo, and gauges? My manual is not being helpful.
