Key coding, 2000 ranger xlt.

I have a 2000 ranger xlt. Are the door keys and the ignition key the same key? The key works in the ignition most of the time, but only got it to work in the door one time. Extremely hard to turn, but it did work the one time I know I can replace the door locks with aftermarket, but still need a new or other ignition key.

. Is there a number on the door lock cylinder that can be used to make a new key for the ignition if they are indeed the same key?

yes they are the same key, does your truck have keyless entry? If so that is probably why the lock cylinder is so hard to turn, never got used

Yes, any locksmith can re-pin a door or ignition lock cylinder to match a key

Your 2000 Ranger has PATS(passive anti-theft system)(1999-2011 V6 Rangers), so your current key(s) that work have an RFID tag in the handle, often called "transponder" keys
When you turn on the key the tag is read and if its unique number has been stored in computers memory then engine will start, if not then No Start

So if you chose to replace the 3 locks you will need to add the new keys to PATS Memory, which is not that easy to do, it IS an "anti-theft" system, lol, so its NOT suppose to be easy to by-pass
