LED Lights In Toolbox and Switch Question
 

I'm looking to replace a switch on some emergency lights I have. Someone before me had the lights hardwired and I want to plug em into my cigaretter lighter. Anyone know where I can find a good cigarette plug w/ a on-off switch built onto it?

Also, anyone know of a good low power usage LED light for installing some lights in my toolbox. I want to wire them up to come on with my truck's interior lighting.

I've been kicking the idea around about putting these in my toolbox-

For the price , I might try one to see how they stand up to vibration.

I use the stickem sylvania 3 LED lights. They attach to underside of toolbox lid with sticker/velcro, and provide a pretty good amount of light.

I thought about going with the cold cathode "flood light" kit, but think it might be overkill for what I intend and need light for

that's what i had back in the day I used the 3M auto Trim tape and worked like a charm.

i have thost stick on lights. problem is, my toolbox is so big and my truck is too tall for me to reach across to tap them on.

i want dedicated 12v lighting in the toolbox...

anyone know about the cigarette plug with switch?

i can't find one with an on/off switch built into it though..

well if you're going to be hardwiring things you could just go to radio shack and get a single pole swtich and wire it up yourself. they're cheap cheap.

How about just add a toggle sw in a good location or tap the cargo light circuit and run from there.
Stick to LEDs for low current draw.

Here is another idea, a Micro Switch with a small lever with a roller piece on the end of the lever.
Position it to turn on when the lid is lifted.

This is one Subminiature water proof micro switches - IP67 MP500 - MICROPRECISION-ELECTRONICS - Miniature switch and Micro-switch for electronics, but I am sure you can find one at Rat Shaq that will work.
The more the switch costs the better the switch will be.

If you use LED Lighting you can keep the wire gauge small around 22 ga and that will mean small holes; use small grommets.

You can wire it into the Cargo Light circuit or off a Keyed circuit or maybe direct power but put a fuse in-line and an indicator light in line ( not grounded separately) and when the power flows the indicator will light up indicating wither the lid id open or the switch has failed.
