Quirky Tach

The cluster in my 02 is out of an Explorer. The tachometer for the past, oh, I guess six or eight months has been very quirky. It indicates RPMs far out of range when idling. If you flick the clear plastic the needle drops back down to normal. I need to pull the cluster to clean out some dirt, etc. but wondered if I should lubricate something, adjust something, etc. Anyone have ideas, suggestions?

pull the needles away from the gauges just a lil bit you might have them pushed to far in and before you put the dash back together test it bc i didn't and had to take everything apart again.

I never touched the tach needle at any point whatsoever. I don't think the needle is pushing itself down harder and harder on the pin.
