Hey guys,
I wanted to find a good book (besides our owners manual) that will give me some general info about our trucks and the stuff that makes them work. I went to the book store today and could only find a book about the F series. Can anyone recomened a good book, something like Mechanics for dummies or something?(is there really such a thing as mechanics for dummies cuz I didnt see it)

the service manuals will tell you how to disassemble and reassemble everything that is serviceable on your ranger

www.flatratetech.com has some good sservice DVD's or CD's with a donation not sure what they go for now but I love it, as far as general auto for the beginer to get an good understanding is "Auto Repai for DUMMIES"

Popular Mechanics prints a "Complete Car Care Manual" which is a decent book. It gives you an idea of what to expect before doing a repair and goes into a few concepts about how things on cars work. The only real downside is that it isn't very specific or in depth. Might be worth a read though. Haynes makes decent repair manuals, though some things in them are not always real clear. I have heard that you can't go better than a factory repair manual or CD.
http://www.howstuffworks.com has a good automotive section that explains how many parts of cars work. I have learned a lot reading their articles.

If u want something specific for our truck that is fairly easy to understand and read try a Haynes Manual (Advance Autoparts and Autozone carry them), or Chilton (if they even make one for our truck, im not sure if they do or not lol)... both show pretty good breakdowns of the truck, and how to fix everything. Dun know if thats what u wanted or not... but i hope it helps :)

I really love the DVD I got from Flatratetech.com. Gives a lot of information that the Haynes and other guides do not give and you can print out a lot of stuff and they got pictures of what everything is supposed to look like. Also it gives you all the tests to perform to help narrow down what part failed and so forth too. But if you are looking to get a book, me personally I do like the Haynes guides over the Chiltons if you go to you local parts shop. The Haynes guides are a bit more easier to understand I feel. But again that is me. Also on Ebay you can find the complete body shop manuels and stuff, but sometimes those can get pricey. Hope it helps some.

Currently, Haynes does not publish a manual that covers models after 2000. Flatrate.com does not have CD's/DVD's for later than the 2001 model year. That leaves Helm publishing ( www.helminc.com) but the price is kinda high ($175.00, if I remember right) and the CD's/DVD's available on Ebay.
Like any thing else on Ebay, buyer beware.
I know how hard they are to find because I've been searching for a good tech reference for my 2003 since the week after I bought it. You can find a general auto reference guide online from Autozone here...

go with the dvd from flatrate there the one from ford ....
and if your really want to learn how to fix and do things on your truck try a vocational type school in your area for night classes
very good hands on training .most have a startup class for work on your car or truck .and once you get the basic in you can do anything .
