Hissing sound and I'm confused....

So I've got an 1986 4 Banger Ranger and it has a hissing noise that is constantly coming from somewhere, if you want to know what this sounds like just press your brakes in and listen while the pedal comes back out.

That is where the noise is coming from but I don't know what to do about it, If I press the pedal down all the way the noise stops but my engine almost dies so I'm thinking it's some sort of vacuum problem but I don't know where to look.

The sound is always there if I don't have the brakes pressed all the way and its starting to annoy me more than anything. If you know of anything that could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

check your vacuum lines and your brake booster for leaks my ranger was doing the same thing and it ended up being the line from the brake booster was split.

I figured it was something like that but I absolutely hate tracking down vacuum leaks, especially when they are the original hoses from 25 years ago haha.

I'll have to check that out and I hope it's as simple as that. I popped the hood and did a quick once over for something obviously wrong but I guess I'll have to invest a little time into it.

yeah i decided to replace all the vacuum lines and it runs so much better the original plastic lines would crumble as soon as they were touched.

Where did you get replacement lines at or did you just use universal lines and cut them to fit?
