Possible? Yes Illegal? Yes. Why would you though the rest of the truck still has 196k on it and just rember you rebuilt it at 196k and the you will be able to figure how many miles on new motor. Im betting it also only says 96k on it also. Unless for some reason they had 3 digits on the gen 1's and then went to a 2 digit in gen2's and then back to a 3 on gen3's. lol

also you said rebuilt.... thats not starting from zero....
when a new motor ( 0 mile crate motor) is swapped in they don't even reset to zero. Each state is different but here they attach a sticker in a few places that says basically motor is new swapped in at xxx,xxx miles on vehicle....
