blinker problems

i have 06 taillights in my ranger and i had to convert it to 2 bulb setup. when i have my headlights on, my right blinker on, and my foot on the brake, the blinker blinks fast. as soon as i take my foot off the brake it blinks normal again.

any ideas?

1) check bulbs...
2) undo the trailer harness and see if the modual is crap like usual...
3) some gov't issued explosives will solve the problem

have you checked the blinker fluid?

jk man don't take it serious. blinkers being speed up means a burnt out bulb or a ground. i would also check the fuses but that couldn't be if it they are working

i didnt hook up the auxillary ground from the trailer wiring harness, i may have to do that. if that doesnt help ill put an electronic flasher in it so it doesnt sense load.

i changed my blinker fluid to synthetic so it can be used all year 'round. that shouldnt be the problem since i used the new ams oil all season formulation. it is $74.99/qt

Dude...you were supposed to put the Amsoil SYNTHETIC all season blinker fluid in! Now you gotta flush the whole blinker system out!

It sounds to me like one of the filaments on one of the blinker bulbs is bad. They are two-filament type, and can fail half-way or all the way.

Electronic flasher is where it's at.....especially with a trailer. The wiring harness and blinker relay are finiky and under load the stock relay doesn't always do it.

I had a similar problem but I just rewired my harness and cleaned up the ground wire contacts.

you do know that you didn't need the trailer adaptor, someone needs to update the howto.

on the 98-99's theres already a green and yellow wire under the truck.

anyways, check the turn signal bulb, mine did that when it broke from offroading.

i fixed it. the old turn signal bulb that you tape up and hide behind the taillight was burnt out. i replaced that bulb and it is fine. i might still look for that plug that daniel is talking about and see if i can hook them up without the trailer harness

Yes, it was me. i got about 500 ft south of plymouth going northbound and there was a guy standing in the right lane, just facing traffic. It is so dark i didnt see him til i was almost up to him. He ran onto the curb when i was about 100ft away from him with both of my feet on the brake. As soon as i went past he came back out into the lane and was throwing his hands up in the air. Was it you Daniel? lol
