Icon5 Vacuum line to where???

While searching for a vacuum leak in my '97 Ranger (2.3L), I noticed that one of two lines connected to the HVAC vacuum reservoir tank is free floating. I think it is supposed to connect to the evaporator core housing but I'm not entirely sure, and if so I need to know what type of fitting to connect it with. (There is some sort of outlet on the housing that looks like it might be where the line should connect to, but the line cannot connect on its own.) Please help! Thanks!

(The diagram does not completely represent what my HVAC system looks like under the hood since I do not have A/C, but it's the closest I could find.)

That empty one that you labeled "here?" looks correct. If it is, I suspect your switch that allows you to direct heat (or A/C if equipped) would not be working, as that port looks to be what the blend dorr(s) would use to open/close the various ports insode the cabin.

Thanks. I think I understand, but oddly enough I don't seem to be experiencing any problems with my heating/ventilation in the cabin.

One vacuum line goes to the intake (vacuum source). The other goes through the firewall to the selector control in the dash. There will be another one coming back out of the firewall the runs to the hot water valve. Follow the other vacuum line coming off the reservoir. If its connected to the intake, then the other must go to the selector control.
