Ford has a reprograming procedure {reprograming} fix the high idle when coasting to idle in Neutral or with the clutch in.

It doesn't really bother me, after all, it's only idling at about 1100 as opposed to the normal 750-900. Does it cause problems or something?

I'm pretty sure youd have to have the dealership re-flash the computer for that.

What years does the re-flash cover?

It doesn't bother me, mine hovers around 1000 until you nearly stop.
I'm sure it's using the VSS signal, because when i take that fuse out (ABS issues, don't ask!) the idle drops ike it does sitting still.

That fuse also kills the speedometer on a 2000, fwiw.

isn't is still covered under warranty? why not take it to ford and have them fix it.

my '97 goes down to normal idle in neutral even if i'm going 30mph...

ford reflashed my computer but i'm fairly certain the high idle i had was a bad pcv valve and the IAC.

Now that I think about it.. I'm pretty sure the idle speed is tied to vehicle speed. Do you notice that it'll drop when you come to a stop?

the idle will drop to 1000 - 1300 when crusing in idle. thiskeeps the vaccume and powersteering going for maneuvering.
I believe the reflash is for the new gen rangers. 03 or 04 +. Maybe before that too. but dont quote me on that.
