moding a boombox??

I recently picked up THIS cheapo boombox from Wally world to bring to the beach. I searched the walmart shelves for boobox that was iPod or MP3 player capable to no avail so I just grabbed this one and found an old tape player adapter and that worked but was kinda sketchy.

$24 is pretty inconsequencial to me so I have no problem hacking at this thing. my question is: Do any of you know what it would take to add either Specifically iPod IN adapter or just RCA IN jacks?

I'll worry about mounting the player later I just wanna hard wire the hook-ups so I dont have the crappy tape deck hanging open with a wire haning out. I think I'm gonna color mach this thing to my truck too just cuz i have an extra spray can of Bright Island Blue from Wayne that I haven't used up.

Sounds great on the beach and in teh hotel room, I don't have many cd's that I care to bring anywhere and the radio is lacking, but iPod ready boombox's are no cheaper that like 60 bucks and that's too costly to bring to the beach and not care about ( ironically I have no problem bringing my iPod...go figure)

what about an FM transmitter?

It would probably be very difficult to determine the input on the board, unless there is a stereo 1/8" jack on it, then just mount an RCA jack on the front and solder the wires off the jack onto the RCA connections... right?

All the FM transmitters I have come across plug into cigarette lighter/ 12v source which this does not come with and also the box runs off 7.2v ( 6 D cells)

So I dont think it would work not a bad idea though

No input jacks with the exception of a microphone that goes to the tape deck part of it. But I agree locating the input would be quite difficult for me.

If nothing else I will just do a case mod to better house the tapedeck adapter... :lick:

you can get an fm transmitter from best buy that is wireless and runs on two AAA batteries for about $20-25. I had one in my truck for a while, works well, plus it got all the radios within a 20' radius when it was in my house.

this is the one I have
Attachment 211927
I got it for $20 like 2 years ago at Fry's Electronics ( www.outpost.com ), and it works really well, the thing doesnt use up a lot of batteries either, 2 AAA's is what it takes..
