jp7, where did you get them leds from? and how much you want for the ones you have, where also did you get your taillights from???? and i meant painting the speedometer because mine has a green backing to it, some have blue, i got a blue led in mt truck i just want to match
The L1224R's come out of Mountaineer tail lights. Send me a PM with what you are looking for.
Don't paint your backside of the speedo, sand of the dungeon green film and use colored LED's behind it.
We should be chatting via aim.

So "Turbo" do you really recommend not painting the back of the gauge overlay's once I sand them? Seems like the color would be more vivid if I were to paint them.
As far as the L1224R's go, I sent you a PM. Looking forward to getting this all sorted out once the LED's show up. Probably tomorrow?

Think about it, if you paint it, the light will have to go through the paint. Thus losing intensity. If you saw my cluster in real life you would completely understand. My friend has an STI and Subaru has a clear shot through just like I am suggesting, you should see how bright his cluster is compared to my CT. The ranger on the other hand, looks way nicer!
And I had that nickname wayyyyy before I knew the difference between normally-aspirated and a muffler bearing. I got it for my superhyper personality. I've since mellowed some. (not much)
The fact that I am tuner now is completely coincidental.

I got some pictures front and rear.

I'm not really satisfied with the turn signal LED's. They aren't very bright during the day and may cause me to get pulled over for no signal. I'll be looking at the vleds.com 60 SMT led ones.
The 6 LED 194 marker lights worked well and will work great with my upcoming mods.
The 2721 HVAC bulbs worked great! No overlay painting at all. The gauges will get done as soon as I get another cluster.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure I'll pick up a set of L1224R's once I get paid. I want the best I can get for the rear.
And the turnsignals aren't a huge deal but I'll probably upgrade to the vled 60 SMT ones. Or if someone can somehow get a hold of the amber version of the "Joule" L1224R I'd be happy to mod those in.

I'm still looking for a stock vehicle that has Amber L1224R's so I can buy the tail lights and pillage them out of those.

Well I know that Chevy is using one of the L1224R's on a vehicle but I'm not sure if it's a taillight or what. I'll do some more research on it.
As far as the L1224R's light output, it's amazing how darn bright it is. I want them more and more. As soon as the funds roll around.]
I think I will go with the 60SMT fronts though. $50 or so from their website or eBay right?

On a side note, I smell something burning and I hope it is just because I have the windows open.

Ok, I'm back, and the burning smell is gone.
I took 2 LED bulbs and did a science experiment.
1) on the left, is a VLEDs 7440 SMT bulb, just like the 60SMT VLED's ones you can buy for the ranger (this was in my Evo, but that dosent matter)
2) on the right, is a L1224R bulb (the kind you can get from me)
I hooked them in parallel, and stuck the bases into cardboard, which I then stuck pieces of paper all around them. The paper is white and should make it easy to see how much light is being aimed backwards at it. The idea here is to see how much light would be shining into the reflectors on your tail lights, or headlights.
This is to show everyone for once the facts of why when you buy the plugin LED's, you cant see them as bright, and people complain.
Keep in mind, I turned my exposure WAY down for this picture. My camera only goes to 1/1500, and I used 1/1000.

Hmm. Well I had a minor setback in mod money recently. Stupid reason but I'll recover shortly. In the meantime I can get stuff from the local junkyard extremely cheap so I'm going to check and see if they have an 06+ Mountaineer.
What all would I need to gather besides the "bulb" itself? Do I need to cut part of the housing?

Turb'z said it right....
Trepaul86 has plug in 60led or maybe 44led 3157's in his tails. I've got the L1224R's from Turb'z....mines brighter and better looking. I own. lol.
Take a peek at my semi-how-to on doing the L1224R mod. I know you've probably seen it already though. lol.

What Jp7 said, the L1224R's shine backward, then bounce off the factory reflector. Whereas those plug in types do not.
