Moving gas gage?

I have a 99 ranger with 71k. My gas needle moves up and down when im driving and stoped. It almost moves a 1/4 tank and im never sure of how much gas i have left. Does anyone else have this problem or know what could be wrong with mine. I wanna say its just the gas moving around in the tank but no other car in my family does that. What do you think????

There is an electronic "anti-slosh module" in the instrument cluster that is supposed to damp the movement of the fuel gauge. There's no easy answer that I know of. Possibly a poor connection either in the red/yellow hot wire, the yellow/white sender wire or the black/white ground. Or the tank sender itself could be failing.

where in the I.P. would that be?

The anti-slosh module is a small plug-in board on the back of the cluster but I have never heard of one going bad.

If any of the other gauges are behaving strangely, too, I would look at the power and ground to the cluster. If it's only the fuel gauge, I would suspect the sending unit circuit. Just guessing, though.

Got to Ford and ask. You can probably weasel the answer out of them without paying a dime. Or if you want to wait, I'll ask my friend who works at Ford next week at school for you.

my gauge in mien is out of whack, I almost ran out of gas b/c the needle decided to not go down to E when it was empty. Plust once it crosses the 1/2 mark it drops reall fast, then rises. It is a pain.
