Hi, Scott! I'm a volunteer prison chaplain myself and I love your user name.
I have some stuff to research that I've been lazy about so I can look this up for you also. What year is your truck?
It won't be as good as a PATS system though. What are you doing -- a hidden switch sort of deal, or is it part of the alarm?
There's several different ways to do it. Disabling the starter is the easiest -- but it could range up to disabling the key-on power feed to the PCM. In a case like that the truck might , but wouldn't start.

Yes. You just use the small wire going to either the starter or the solenoid on the fenderwell. Not sure how the 91's are configured.
In older Fords, the relay (sometimes also called the external solenoid) was on the fenderwell. In newer s it's integrated into the starter.
If there is only a large gauge wire going to your starter, then the control relay is on the fenderwell just aft of the battery. You'll see the big wire from the battery going back to the solenoid, and a big wire coming out of it going to the starter. There will be one or two small wires also going to the solenoid. You can pull one of them off and see if it works and then that's the one you interrupt.
If there's a small wire going to the starter and no external solenoid, then that's the wire you interrupt.
The solenoid coil draws up to 10 amps or so though depending on the design, so you need a half decent switch or relay. Most I think draw much less, but that's a good design goal I think.
Hope that was clear.
Sadly, when you use a username like that you'll get ignored by a large number of posters here -- but that's "normal", lol. There's more than a few serious Christians on here though, so don't let it push your buttons.
In fact, some WILL try to push your buttons and beware of the "Religious and Political Discussions" forum unless you're very good at apologetics, lol. It's like the wild west over there sometimes. My Christianity is well known here and though some want to play games, most are tolerant.
But anyway welcome, be blessed, and lift up the name of Jesus!

Thanks for the help on the design there. I think i'll take a look at it next weekend so I will try to get back to you about it.
Yeah ive had this name on a few other forums and its never been a problem for me. I dont have a problem with people pushing my buttons - I just remember John 15:18, lol.
Thanks for blessing.

Welcome to the site Scott!
Like John, I too really admire your screen name. John, I had no idea you were a believer too, but i'm very new here myself.
Not to get off topic here (sorry, I'm an electrical idiot so I can't help with your problem), it's nice to see others who embrace the Truth. I've visited the Religious/Political section a couple of times and had a hard time holding my tongue (fingers). I'm no good at apologetics and don't want to say the wrong thing or give the wrong impression.
I don't think I'll get in too much trouble since it's just the three of us that have posted on this thread!

Code reader
Hello, I bought a code reader, you can buy them at Walmart for 30 or 40 bucks. Then you get the error code take a taxi uber or bus, go to dealership with all proof if ownership and make them give you the codes you need to clear it yourself. If they wont give them to you, they should, my dealership just told me they would on Monday, I asked her to please make a note. Then you go home and use your very own reader and put in the code yourself. Or bypass it, only takes a 50 cent relay switch and a wire and take chip out of key, WA LA.

The original poster wasn't having any problems with his anti theft system, his 91 Ranger didn't have one, he wanted to make one.
Also, what's with the Bold type ?, it's annoying.
