Need electrical help...

I've got a touch switch for my 500ff lights behind the grill. The way the switch was made, it needs a constant power source in order for the switch to illuminate red (off).

My problem is that SOMETIMES I've forgotten to shut the lights off and they end up draining the battery real quick when the truck is turned off.

Does anyone know which radio wire will provide power only when the truck is running? I'd prefer power only to come to the switch when the truck is running and NOT when it's off but the key is in the ACC position.

Thanks

You were actually correct the first time. Its the Yellow with Black stripe. The Red with Black stripe is hot only while cranking.

Sweet!
Thanks Guys!

I find it curious that the Red/Black wire is only hot during starting. Why would a radio need that?

What r u trying to do ?
I need to ask, why do you need an indicator to tell you the lights are off ?
If you have one for “On” then “Off” is no light.

None of the wires in the radio connector will do what you ask. The YE/BK is hot in both RUN and ACC.

Dash fuses 2, 6, 10 and 14 are hot in RUN only.

The switch I has a red LED for off and blue LED for on. Don't ask why... Not exactly what I would have designed. But it's the only touch switch, so I won't bump into it and accidentally turn it on.

Hot in both RUN and ACC is fine with me.

If you’re concerned with accidentally leaving the lights on I’d connect the auxiliary light switch to the Light Blue with Red Stripe wire. This wire only receives power with the headlamp switch in the park/headlight on position. Since your truck has a headlamp reminder chime, you’d be less likely to forget to turn them off.

Only draw back is your auxiliary lights will only work with the headlight switch in the park/headlights on position. If you want them to work anytime the ignition system is in the run/accessory position then use the Yellow with Black stripe wire.

The yellow/black wire is good for me... I'd want to run the lights without the headlights having to be on.

annguyen1981,

Did you get this figured out ?
R they working ?

ranger4.0 02-12-2012 10:01 AM

i tapped the relay power wire into my running lights wire. that way as long as your running lights are on the hellas can be on. as soon as you turn them off it kills the other lights too

That works,

Luck with it.
