Need help..4x4 issue

I have a 2005 Mazda b4000..Everything was working on it but the transmission started to slip..I parked it..It could still be driven and the 4x4 worked..fast forward 3yrs later I put another transmission in it..I even drove it to the shop but noticed the 4x4 wouldn’t work after sitting up that long. There used to be a clicking from the TCCM but now there is not.

I replaced the switch/actuator/and got another tccm (used)..i got a wiring diagram and checked all the wires..The two wires that feed the actuator motor are solid orange and solid yellow..they never send power to the actuator..

Pin 4 on c281b the yellow/white has a ground to it..should it be hot?

Pin 9 on c281B the blue/black line wire goes to PCM and has a low voltage (2.70)and a ground at the same time..I pull the harness from PCM and behind the dash the ground goes out...doesn’t seem to me it should have ground and voltage at the same time or is that how the PCM works?

my selector switch is receiving 3.75 volts,I was under the impression it is supposed to be 5v,resistance is noted as selector is moved..and voltage on this line drops as selector is changed..however pin 1 on c281B the yellow/blue line does not send any voltage to the TCCM..and it is supposed to be the signal return..

i checked all fuses and they all work..27 in junction box,28,27,32,10,7 in smart junction box

any idea why my TCCM won’t click anymore and why it’s not even trying?

I noticed 4x4 high and low lights do come on at start for bulb check.

this thing has almost whipped me..I hope someone can help me figure it out..thank you

Welcome to the forum

The dash switch never fails on these, unless physically damaged

The 4x4CM, which is behind the radio on a 2005 Ranger, is a known failure point

But after sitting for a few years the shift motor's brushes may have been the initial problem, they lose contact to the rotor so they no longer pass 12v/ground and motor doesn't turn, but you would still hear the "click" in the cab

There are 2 different 4x4CMs which are not interchangeable, 2001-2006, 2007-2011 are the two models I believe, but 2005 is definitely in the early range which was the one that failed the most

I would put back in the original 4x4CM and see if it "clicks"

The 4x4CM has 2 relays in side, both are grounds when off
Then you select a different 4WD setting the 4x4CM activates 1 of the relays( the "click") to send 12volts on 1 of the motors wires, the other wire is already a ground, and the motor turns, either Clockwise, or counter clockwise, depending on which wire got the 12volts, works exactly the same as power window motors do, up/down

Yes, the switch usually receives "about" 5volts from the 4x4CM, but this is a reference voltage, and depending on which resistors it flows thru back to the 4x4CM that tells the 4x4CM which setting has been selected
So the 4x4CM "knows" what voltage it is sending to the switch, for reference, and so it "knows" what setting the switch is in as soon as you turn on the key and 4x4XCM get powered up

Test the OUT wire(yellow/light blue stripe) on the switch, or 4x4CM, and see if voltage changes in each setting if you want to test it

This is from another member here
I get 3.86v and 3,870 ohms for 2wd,
2.94v and 1,090 ohms for 4wd high and
1.76v and 357 ohms for 4wd low
As you can see by the voltage, it goes down with the OHMs????, should be the opposite, thats because this is a "pull down" circuit, or "pull up", I never can keep those straight, lol

If there is no "click" my money is on a bad 4x4CM
Used is a roll of the dice since they are known to fail

thank you so much for the reply..I’m not getting continuity between blue/white and yellow/blue,I also am not getting any voltage from yellow blue at all back to tccm..when I turn my switch the blue/white voltage drops like you’re talking about, but like I said no voltage on the yellow/blue which is supposed to be the signal return..I just get a resistance reading that changes as the switch is moved when I check the continuity. This is a brand new switch that is doing exactly like the original..

no clicking whatsoever from either TCCM I guess maybe I should buy a remanufactured one

I replaced the actuator with a brand new one and all wires going to the gear motor encoder assembly have fire besides solid orange:solid yellow, and yellow/white..thanks for your time
