Need help decoding an 8.8 rear off a mustang.

i got a buddy with an 8.8 rear he took a picture of the axle tag

201A 73 A88 6G23, from that i got it 8.8 rear 2.73gears made in july 23rd 1986, only part im not sure of is if its open or a traction lock rear. So i thought id ask some of you guru's to help me out.

Also if it is Traction lock rear, would the carrier fit in our 8.8 rears, i know the axle is actually short in length then ours but if i took the carrier would it work?

thanks, jason

28 splines fit all 28 splines, vice versa for 31. I don't think you can change the spiders between them, but not sure.....

There are spiders, they just have the spring and clutch packs that the open does not have. Also, the two carriers (l/s and open) are totally different, I meant not sure if you can switch 28/31 spline spiders from their respective carriers.

Trac lock.....(pin, c clips, and shafts removed)

Open....
