This ever happen to anyone else with the silverstar lights?

I changed out my alternator this weekend and when I turned on all my accessories to see if everything was ok I switched the high beams on and they stopped working. My low beams work fine but if I switch to high beams my low beams shut off or if i just try to flash the highs nothing happens but my lows still stay on.

I just got these last year, ticks me off that I have to buy a new set. I rarely use the highs but I use them to flash people at stop signs and stuff like that so I would like to have them.

I put in my old lights and they work fine in low and high, so it isn't a wiring issue.

On the bright side I did get the 130amp alternator. Pain in the *** to get the belt tensioner where it was supposed to be. I had the truck squelling like a pig for awhile until I realized the tensioner should be pointing down not up.

 

No one ever experienced this problem? I have to go get new ones tonight.

 

well, when you turn on your high beams, your low beams shut off automatically. When you just pull the lever back to flash them, it leaves the Low beams on, and also turns on the high beams. you don't want to hold the lever back so the highs and lows are on becuase that will cause alot of heat and power being drawn through the switch.

things that come to my mind that could have resulted in high beam failure
-when switching the alternater, its pushing too many volts, and when you turned on your high beams, it blew the little figment or whatever its called

-shorted out somehow and you may have a blown fuse, so check those

-the high beam switch may be broken, even though it doesn't sound like it.

he said he put his old lights back in and low and high beams work fine.

I've never had that happen before. Did you check the filiments when you pulled the bulbs out to see if the highs were blown?

 

I checked and it seems like something is missing from them but I'm not sure. My old lights work like they should so I guess I had to blow the filament in the silverstars. These are supposed to be great lights and I just don't get why both of them would blow at exactly the same time and nothing else happened to my other gear on the truck. And I have some cheap as fog lights and back up lights on the truck and they work fine.

 

I sent slyvania an e-mail saying what happened and they are replacing them for free. I just have to send them back and they'll ship new one's out for me. I'm still buying new one's since they have the ultra's out now, but hey, a free back up set of silverstars. Not bad. Sometimes complaining works as long as you slip a few compliments in on the great product but the bad experience you had with them.
