Push Button Igntion / Coded Igntion

Ok. So this is probably one of those things that is way out in left field, but I saw in Transporter 2 (watched it this weekend for kicks) and started thinking about it.

Ok, so I know Push Button Ignitions exist. Pretty sure the GT40 just has a big red button that says "Start" (which would be sweet in and of itself). What would be needed to do this? Now keep in mind that I've never done much research on the electricals of a system, but here's what I'm thinking must happen (or at least something similar).

So when you insert the key and move in to the On Position, the motor goes through a quick check to make sure the Chip in the Key is tuned to the car and if so, sets some computer bit to say that if the Key is Moved to the Start position, go through the Ignition Process.

Ok. So to do a Push Button Start with the Key still, all you would need is to have the Button tied to the Start sequence instead of the Start Position in the Steering Column. And it would it be possible on our trucks to do without the key? I know it wouldn't be save at all, since you'd simply need to get in and hit a button and go, but does anyone know a way to bypass the PATS to start the car (which I guess would more or less be hot-wiring the damn thing) so maybe that topic shouldn't get covered.

Anyone ever seen this done or done it on a Ranger or any other car for that matter?

Now, for the part I saw in the movie, a coded ignition. Now this would obviously be a bit more complicated as your would probably need some Digitial to Analog conversions, but still wouldn't be too hard with some Electrical no-how. So assuming you can find an Electical keypad that will do all the computations for you (meaning you enter a code and if right it sends out an ignition signal), simply replace the Button with the keypad and then the system would work fine.

So, now that I've typed all that, I somewhat realize this looks like me just rambling so I'm going to for the most part just stop now.

Here's the gist of it. Anyone thought about this, done research on it, done it on other cars, anything like this? If so, is it hard to do? Let me know if you my assumptions are correct and if you guys know of any kits or anything to go about doing this. I think it'd be pretty sweet to have a coded igntion sequence. Probably a pipe dream, but that's what Engineers do. We dream about doing random crap and then we try and figure out how. Haha....

I have a push button starter on my truck. I just wired a heavy duty switch to the battery, then to the starters solenoid signal. Key has to be in the on position, then hold the starter button til the truck starts.
