Need help wiring fog lights
1 Attachment(s)
Okay guys, i've had some fogs on my truck for over a year now, and i've got my switch and everything, i just never wired them up...
What would be the best way to go about wiring them? Attachment 141805 |
1.Find a place to ground them.
2.Run the power wire from the lights to the switch. 3.Run a Wire from a power source to switch. 4.If switch is lighted you will need to ground it also. |
AND a fuse, AND possibly a relay
|
if you figure out how much your lights are gonna pull get wires heavy enough to handle the load and fuse it so that if the wire happens to rub you wont burn your truck down make sure your switch can handle the load if it can't then get a relay that can handle the load of the lights and fuse the switch and the relay for the same safety issue

go to vato zone, find the 12v accessory wiring kit. wire them up.. lol
|
watts / volts = amps so say you have two 55w fog lights thats 110w total divide that by 12 and you get about 10 A so your switch needs to be able to handle 10A you fuse should be a 10A and your wires should be able to handle 10A and thats max current draw of the lights so you probably wont need a relay but its good to do the math and get the right stuff because you will regret it otherwise!

Most of the wiring instructions with lighting kits are OK and should work.
What lights do you have, did it come with a harness or did you buy it separately ? If building buy components that have a current rating for the total load of the circuit. Building a relay circuit isn't too hard, just take your time and do it right the first time; because if you don't you could have a fire. Remember, two lights per relay/circuit and get good grounds, maybe take the grounds back to the battery area. One switch can operate more than one relay but two switches will have a reserve system to cover you if one set blows out. |
Hey Crackerstin,
Where do you stand on this ? |

FWIW, this is how I'm going to do mine. I'm just a bigger fan of a ground seeking style circuit.
