Speedo Odometer question

Speedo Odometer question
Just bought a 95 4x2 Ranger. My speedo works but my odometers don't. Has about 200,000 miles. Does anyone know if the odometer is cable driven? I am thinking the speedo is electronic while the odometers might be cable. That would explain why one works and the other doesn't. Also could it just be a bad instrument cluster? Thanks for your ideas. Mike

I also have a 95 ranger, my speedo and odo are inoperative right now, and it is not then speed sensor. This speed sensor is mounted on the tail of the trans, and i replaced it but checked the old one out and it seemed fine. This one does not seem to go through the connector under the seat, so would replacing the cluster be the next step or is there a way to test the wires for a break first? I lost my speedo after a trip down a particularly rough dirt road so i would think that something has shake loose but i cant find anything.

1995 and up use only the VSS(vehicle speed sensor) for the Speedometer and the Odometer, also for computer and ABS.
The odometer on a 1995 is driven by a motor, yes an electric motor with a worm gear drive(same motor is for "trip meter")
Good How-to here on fixing the "speedo works but odometer doesn't issue":
