Icon4 No cool air Need help fast!

Hey guys, have a cooling issue, but not motor related. No matter what setting my HVAC is on, my vents blow very hot air. only on max AC will they blow cold air, but as soon as i switch to normal AC, it goes hot.

Defrost, floor, face vents, every one blows extremely hot air. I rode the bike to work today because i have no AC on the hot days today.

Any help would be awesome. Im thinking its not switching the system over to pull air from outside, and its stuck pulling it from the heater core full of hot coolant.

Thanks!

my truck is like that, its your blend door. i belive that the "max AC" just bypasses the blend door. i think your blend door is right behind your glove box.

ok, good to know. im reading the same stuff. I would often hear a loud thud a few seconds after starting my truck, but it would only happen every so often. makes sense if the door was sticking and then releasing all of a sudden.

Gonna call my local parts guys and see what i can find. looks like im tearing apart my truck tonight.

i had the same problem on the pos green truck and i replaced the blend door actuator, nothing happened. thats what made me sell it. Getting to work all sweaty sucked. hopefully yours is a simple fix

I didn't really take anything apart to replace it aside taking out the glovebox which is cake. just used a ratcheting box wrench.

there is a write up. whoever did it cut into the door, sleeved the dowel w/ brass and reinstalled. idk what they did to seal up the hole they cut though. mine is also like this but ive been lazy in repairing it. that and a/c isnt a deal breaker.

alright pulled it apart tonight. my issue is not a broken blend door, its the motor not moving the door.

Heres my motor:

inside:

watched the motor, truck on and playing with temp control... no movement...ok

checked voltage at hvac panel, changes with temp change. good

checked voltage at motor, changed with temp imput. good

pulled motor, plugged it in and played with temp imput, no movement. bad...ok

opened it. reeks of burnt electronics.... :) huston, we have our problem. gonna grab a new one tomorrow and test it out.

you drop your glovebox and have full access to it. the back bolt is a PITA, but total time took maybe 20 minutes. you can see the output shaft without removing it. if the shaft isnt moving when your playing with the temp control, its probably the motor. (test with truck running)

ill let ya know as soon as i have one what the result is. hopefully it is just this box.

Did you happen to see this? What I find interesting is I think it's TRS said be careful when cutting into heater box. These guys aproach it from the bottom and say there isn't a threat to cut into something important.
Might be worth it to purchase if they are still in business.

i wont be cutting anything. if it was the door, id spend the time to do it properly. Hack jobs are retarded.

I ordered a heater door from Ford Ranger '93-'08 - '93 - '08 - Ranger - Ford.
I am going to replace that on my vaca next week. I saw your issue was the motor. Can I order that from napa or a similar store? The only reason I ask is I know those places carry dorman parts and you said that your motor was a dorman unit.

yep got mine from napa for like $60. list on it was like 145 though. if you cant find it for my price, ill call your local napa and play it off as a dealer that needs the part, and have you go pick it up and pay for it.

CANUK HOLIDAY BUMP:

I bought the metal door replacement and tackled this today, my heater door is fine, aside from some missing sponge on the bottom and I have to cover the hole I made in the bottom of the heater core. However, I hooked up a 9volt batter to the motor and no movement. I called oriley's in detroit and its $40 plus tolls and fuel $50-60. Partsource here has to order it and it was $60. I'm heading over later and hopefully this will be fixed soon and I can have cool AC intime for fall.
