No crank no start

Motor was over heated rebuilt it went to start it no crank or start fuel pump did turn on starter did not engage got it to crank by byepassing the starter solenoid then it cranked over but still did not start. What could this be ? Could it be I have to reprogram my key/ get a new one or a new ecu/ecm or a new ignition switch??

Welcome to the forum

You should include year and engine model with questions

1999 3.0l Ranger?

1999 V6 Ranger will have PATS(passive anti-theft system)
And it will have a THEFT light on the dash hooked to PATS module
Theft light should flash every 5 to 10 seconds Key OFF
With key on it should come on and then go off and stay off, this means the Key "passed the test", PATS is not your issue
If THEFT light starts to flash rapidly then PATS is your issue
Leave key ON
Wait for 45-60 seconds and the THEFT light will start to flash a 2 digit code, a 1 and then 1 to 6 flashes, then repeat
So codes are 11 to 16

11 Transceiver [transponder coil] not connected, or there is no power to it.
12 Transceiver internal fault.
13 No Key/no PATS key has been used to turn the ignition switch.
14 Incomplete key code received.
15 Invalid key code received.
16 CAN communications error.

So does your THEFT Light work?

Fuel pump is disable by PATS and so are injectors, so if you hear the fuel pump run for 2 seconds with key on then NOT a PATS issue

You can get your owners manual here: https://www.ranger-forums.com/genera...1-models-3747/
It will show you where the THEFT light is on the dash

Minimum battery voltage with PATS vehicles is 12.3volts, under that and PATS can't read the key very well

Not a PATS issue
Starter relay in engine fuse box is this what you jumped?
This is the relay PATS uses to disable starter motor

Fuse 24 in cab fuse box is used to activate starter motor but THRU the Neutral safety switch
If manual trans clutch pedal has to be down all the way
If automatic it must be all the way in Park or try Neutral, and DTR switch on driverside of trans must be plugged in

Watch the CEL(check engine light), it should come on with Key ON and then go OFF when engine is turning, it goes off when computer has a timing pulse from crank sensor
But no connection to starter motor not working
