No start after head gasket replacement
No start after head gasket replacement
A friend and I Just went through and to change the head gasket on my 2006 3.0 ranger.
after tearing down through everything, we noticed the right cylinder head was cracked and I changed that.
the reason we decided to start the head gasket replacement was I had a misfire on cylinder 5, and there was white smoke coming out the back. When end we drained the oil, we noticed there was a lot of coolant on there. Prior to this there was no overheating that I ever noticed.
aftwr rebuilding everything, we went to fire it up and it would not start. It cranked but would not “catch”. There was a strong odor of fuel after this. I checked the cylinder pressure and there were all within spec. I checked the fuel pressure and it started at 40 but dropped down quickly. I recently changed the fuel pump too. I think it has something to do with fuel, but cannot figure out where to start. Any feedback/suggestions is appreciated
thanks

First do 50/50 test anytime there is a Crank but no start
50/50 test
Spray fuel into the intake and try to start the engine
If it starts then you do have a fuel issue
If it doesn't then its a spark issue
50/50
Make sure Crank sensor got plugged back in, front of engine down next to crank pulley
Crank sensor is the only sensor on an engine that can cause a no start

No, spark timing is not adjustable and cam/crank timing was not disturbed just doing the heads
Did you need to pull out the Cam sensor at the top back of the engine?
It is a timed sensor but shouldn't cause a no start
Do the 50/50 test, that narrows down the problem instantly
