Noise Filter on 12v Power Point

I found a noise filter that the p/o hooked up to the the 12v power point on my radio bezel. I don't know why it is hooked up and want to get your ideas. It is from radio shack and has supplied power going in, and out back to the power point. Does it serve a good enough purpose to keep? or should I just wire it back to the way it was stock? I was wired in with wire nuts and electrical tape which scare me.

Thanks,
Jason

Communications?

Do you see any evidence of a CB or Ham radio having been installed in the truck? (ie: holes in dash or on floor) That could be why he had it in there. You sometimes get "alternator whine" in some communications radios - that could be his reason for installing the filter. Just a thought! Disconnect it and see if there's any noise on your stereo equipment - if not, pull it out!

I installed one on mine. When a power adapter (cell phone, mp3) was plugged in to the 12V or the lighter the radio would have a high pitched whine.
