My Ford Ranger is Splash 3.0L V6 1995 and came with OBD2 connection just want your suggestion to buy a OBD scanner because i read a lot of issues in other web sites with OBD scanners on different car brands .Did you have any experience with that, any issues?

i was looking for those on eBay :they are cheap but they do the job well as i see in many reviews:

 

1995 Ranger used a FORD specific OBD2, the standard OBD2 was not required until 1996 model year
1994 and earlier used different computer and OBD1

So.............unless its a Ford OBD2 reader for 1995 there is no guarantee it would work on 100% of the data requested
It might be fine for generic OBD2 codes, but I would look around a bit more at posts regarding 1995 Ranger and OBD readers, that worked, its a transition year



I like the OBD2 Bluetooth units as they are cheap, if you have a smartphone or tablet already, and they are software based, meaning the part that plugs into the vehicle is just the "connector", the part that requests the data from the computer is the software in the APP you use, so its adjustable/update-able

 

Thanks for the information but just ask what is this distitive OBD2 scanner use xclusive for Ford is that one that is bidirectional or something like that?

this one below is an old OBD2 scanner is the one that my brother have and read the codes of my Ranger.

 

Any OBD unit has to be bi-directional
It sends a "request for data"(PID)
Then gets back the requested data from computer

Not familiar with all OBD readers, I got a BlueDriver awhile back, no complaints.....but never had a 1995 Ranger to test it on

Ford has since switched to IDS(Integrated Diagnostic System) software
Both are available for tablets and laptops as they can also do programming not just read data
