I recently installed a Pioneer DEH-P4900IB. It works fine and sounds nice. But now my parking lamps, fog lights, dash lights, and the door chime don't work. I don't know what happened. I followed the normal wiring harness, a scosche fdk106 to the Pioneer harness. When I originally hooked it up I might have done it wrong. The orange/white wire from the headunit to the orange/white wire on the scosche plug is how I had it. I have a feeling thats what did it because the illumination didn't change when I turned on my headlights so I switched the orange/white wire on the scosche plug to the solid orange instead. Still nothing. This was before I knew this was going on.
I checked all the fuses, plugs and all wires and still nothing. I even plugged the factory radio back in and still I get nothing. Funny thing is, the radio still works. Oh and somehow I think it blew up my cb. The led for the number doesn't light up but it turns on and I can talk on it. Please Bob, John, or anyone else help me. I'm hoping there isn't a bigger problem.

 

I think you'll find that fuse 33 is melted. Look in the box under the hood.

 

Fuse 33 under the hood or in the truck? I made the mistake of not checking the ones under the hood. Thank you for the quick reply Bob.

Edit: How should I go about hooking up the illumination once I get this fixed? On the plug going to the factory harness there is a solid orange and then a orange/white wire. On the harness from the headunit there is a orange/white. All it says is illumination. I'm confused. Hopefully this is just a simple fuse problem.

The head unit's illumination wire should be connected to the light blue/red wire in the truck harness.

 

After I installed and wired my ohc, I started having electirical problems, then one night, my truck completely shut off except for the headlights. I had to rip the dash out and found that the wire system controlling the dimmer system melted. I had to rewire that entire system brand new, had to buy a new dimmer switch and a new headlight switch.

If I were you, I would open up the dash and check ALL your wires. It took me weeks to fix that short that I had because it melted a lot of surrounding wires with it. I would invest in the (EVTM) Electrical and Vacuum Troubleshooting manual for your year truck and and follow the wiring diagrams. Just my two cents.

By the way, Bob is the man to ask about his stuff, he will not steer you wrong.

 

Thankfully Bob was right. It was simply a fuse. I'm not sure what happened the first time I installed it but it's fine now.

 

This sometimes happens during HU installations or other mods. The #33 fuse is hot all the time, even when the ignition is off. If you don't disconnect the battery, the fuse can easily be taken out by grounding the LB/RD wire during handling or wiring.

 

Oh. Well I guess I probably should've followed the instruction and actually unhooked the battery. Now I will with everything else electrical I do. Thanks again Bob for all your help.
