Oil pressure switch

So Ive been trying to narrow down an oil leak, and today I did my valve cover gaskets and replaced the oil pressure switch. Well, after this, my oil pressure gauge no longer does anything. Im pretty certain I have oil pressure, as theres no knocking or any extra noise, and everythings running smoothly. Any ideas?

This is on a 94 3.0 2wd.

That oil gauge is not a true oil pressure gauge. Put the old one back in and see if that fixes the problem.

I know its an idiot light, but I would like to be able to tell if I lose oil pressure completely. I cant put the old one back in because the plastic casing on it broke, it fell in between my exhaust and frame and I had to bounce the truck to get it to drop out

@Highoctane

If the other was working there can't be much wrong. It's only a one wire connection. Is there any chance the wire connection is broken?

Its possible, its a 30 year old truck and the people that had it before me did not take care of it. Stuffs brittle, I broke a vacuum line doing the valve covers by just pulling it out of the way taking the plenum off.

If you have a multi-meter then check the connection to see if there's power to it. Good luck with it.

Thanks. It wouldnt be a big deal if they didnt stick it on the back of the block basically inside the firewall where you can JUST BARELY get a socket on it.

I understand that. I have a 99 4.0 4x4. I changed my oil pressure switch back in the Summer due to the gauge intermittently fluctuating. Not hard to do, just a little aggravating.

You should be able to just ground the wire that clips on the switch to see the gauge go to the middle. I suppose you could check that that wire has +12v with a meter to confirm I don’t have my facts backwards. You only need the key in run position for this. If the gauge checks out as okay then either your new switch isn’t working or you put a thread sealer on it that’s not allowing the current to flow to (actually from) ground.
