Making the parking lights go on when unlocked?

I was wondering how difficult it would be to have my parking lights turn on when I unlock my truck from my key remote. I see a lot of new cars that do this, and if it is something that I can do reasonably, then I would really like to. I know the dome light turns on when you unlock it, maybe wiring the parking lights to that or something? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

you would have to install a switch or timer so that they shut off either when your door opens then closes, or like 10 seconds after you hit the switch...that would be the only obsticale that i can see...

I think you would be able to wire up something that would kick the relay for the parking lamps from the dome lamp. The only thing would be that you wouldn't want your parking lamps coming on every time the dome lamp was on. I'm sure Bob W. will chime in sooner or later, as he's the electrical genius.

I think the easiest way would be to make a program change in the ECM, but I'm not sure which ECM you would need to do it to. Maybe it's something that BamaChips could help you out with.

Alternatively, you could run the power for all your parking lights through a Time Delay Drop Out (TDDO) relay. With this setup, when your lights blink as you hit your key fob, they would stay on until the relay dropped out. The would also mean that when you would turn them off normally, they would stay on for a set time after you turned them off. Another catch with this, is I'm not sure if it would disable your blinkers. Maybe you could use another realy to return the functionality to normal when the key is in the ON position. This would work, but Bob might be able to come up with an easier solution.

You could probably use the dome light wire from the GEM to trigger a relay to turn on the parking lights. The GEM powers the dome light for a short while after getting the fob unlock trigger from the CSM. I would think that you'd want limit it to only when the ignition is off so you might need another relay to reverse the ignition-on logic. There may be more to it - that's just off the top of my head without a book.

You probably don’t want to be sending voltage and amps places it’s not supposed to go when it’s supposed to. But hey it’s your truck.
