P.A.T.S. Issues
P.A.T.S. Issues
I have a 09 ford ranger all basic standard equipment. My wife/exwife now took my keys when she left me. So I drilled out the switch replaced it with a new switch. When doing so it placed it in theft mode. Had a locksmith come and use a scanner to take it out of theft mode, after doing so the truck still will not start. The fuel pump isn’t turning on I dropped the tank tested the pump it’s good tested the wires running to it and it’s not receiving signal after a little research I found out that the pats system shuts down the fuel system to both the pump and the injectors. Can anyone help me figure why there still immobilized after the lock smith had taken it out of theft mode
It's flashing a code. You need to count the flashes so we know the code it's giving you.
After it flashes for a minute, It will flash once, and then stop. This is the first number. Then it will flash in sequence to represent the second number of the code. At the end of the code, it will stop and then restart the process.
Codes will be 1-2, 1-3, 1-4, 1-5, or 1-6. Each of those codes is a different issue that may be going on with the PATS system.

ok soon as I check it I’ll get back with u is it possible to flash multiple codes or only one at a time
The locksmith CANNOT take it out of theft mode
Did the truck start for the locksmith after programming the new keys?
13 is a non PATS key or bad chip in the key.
The other possible codes are copied from one of @RonD posts

11 Transceiver [transponder coil] not connected, or there is no power to it.
12 Transceiver internal fault.
13 No Key/no PATS key has been used to turn the ignition switch.
14 Incomplete key code received.
15 Invalid key code received.
16 CAN communications error.
And just as a Heads Up
If you try to start engine 4 or 5 times and get the Flashing THEFT Light, PATS will go into LOCK DOWN Mode, you have to wait 90minutes to retry start up
Its a Theft Prevention Mode, unhooking battery doesn't shorten the time, it has capacitor timer

There are only two approved manufacturers for replacement PATS keys, Strattec and Huf. You'll notice that your keys will be stamped with an S (40bit) or SA (80bit) for Strattec keys, and H(40bit) or HA(80bit) for Huf keys. Any other manufacturer is a risk, but you may also find chip issues with the Strattec keys depending on what your locksmith has in stock.
I broke a key a few years ago while three hours away and had to have a locksmith cut new ones and clone them off the broken one so I could get home since I didn't have my spare key. I ended up having to go back down a few months later to warranty out the keys they made since they were resulting in no-starts. That was when they mentioned to me that Strattec had a run of faulty chips at one point, and that was why they think the keys failed.
