Front Hubs

Sorry for making so many posts lately! ha.

i need new front hubs 4x4 ABS on my 99 xlt.

got a quote for like 500 bucks from the shop, 180 per side for each hub.

i'm sure i can get cheaper online.

but how hard is it to do myself? connect ABS wires and remove like the 3 or 4 bolts that hold the hub on?

I paid $224 for one hub at rockauto.com. I actually just changed one yesterday and it took me about an hour and fifteen. Its not that hard to change, but dont forget the two retaining clips that are on the cv axle inside the hub. And if its the first time taking them off, you will need a big breaker bar with a 15mm shallow socket.

Convert to Manual Locking Hubs. I did and i will never regret it they are so much better than the crappy PVH Hubs which are factory. I have a 99 also. Only difference is that you have to get out and lock the hubs before you want to engage the 4x4 but you can also leave them locked, if you wish. Very easy to install just plug up your vac line going to each hub and install these and you are good to go!

i got mine here, for the pair its cheaper than ONE stock crappy PVH hub lol
15001.70 - AVM - NOW SHIPPING - Ford Ranger Manual Locking Hubs PAIR - AVM Manual Locking Hub PAIR For 1997-00 Ford Rangers : Tellico 4x4

and if you have stock wheels/centercaps, you can just get a holesaw and cut out the center cap so you have access to the hub but if u have aftermarket, just leave them be it looks fine

Please don't buy new automatic hubs. Just get the AVM manual hubs. They are much cheaper and more reliable. It only takes a couple of minutes to install them.

either way, i'll have to get the whole assembly because i have a bad wheel bearing. and i am told that the ABS 4x4 ones are sealed. so i can't just get the bearing.

It's pretty straight forward. Jack the truck up, take off the tire, take off the caliper and rotor, take off the hub, then there's a little snap ring in there that's a pain to get out, then I think there's 3 bolts holding the hub assembly on... There's a little more too it than that, but that's mainly it. I've done both hubs on my truck and it took me about an hour and a half for each.
