PATS issue
PATS issue
I have 2007 ford ranger with no power anything locks doors etc...
I removed dash to build roll cage and put everything back together now when I went to to fire up the truck the anti theft light flashes on the truck rapidly for 1 minute then flashes 1:6. All lights on the dash illuminate. And the odometer doesn’t read it just comes up as ——————.
i talked to the dealer and the said the PATS system need to be re-paired. So I called up a local locksmith but when he plugs in his machine it says unable to communicate. I’ve checked all wiring to make sure I didn’t forget to plug anything in and to make sure all the connections are solid.
I don’t know what to do next.
ANY feedback would be appreciated!

The PCM(computer) is connected to all the modules, including the instrument cluster, by a 2 wire data network, called a CAN Bus
The PCM is paired with most modules at the factory, especially the instrument cluster on 2004 - 2011 Rangers, so one won't work without its Paired mate, so you can NOT swap PCM or Cluster on these years without getting Ford Dealer involved, period, no work around
PATS key check is in the Cluster, and 1:6 means it can't "talk" to PCM on the CAN Bus lines, and no odometer also means the same thing, no connection to PCM
Never read about a cluster or PCM losing its Pairing, I guess its possible, but more likely a loose connection or blown fuse
PATS code 1:1 would mean "key reader" wasn't working, and your not getting that code
So key number is reaching the cluster, but it can't "talk" to PCM so you get 1:6
The OBD2 port allows you, or locksmith, to connect to Computer to see the status of computer and modules connected to it
There are a few fuse to check
Fuses 9, 10, and 33 in the cab fuse box are used for the instrument cluster and PATS
Fuse 29 in cab fuse box powers OBD2 port
Also, is the CEL(check engine light) coming on?
CEL on with key on means PCM is starting up, booting up, so has power, no CEL means no PCM so no communications and PATS Code 1:6
I would unplug and plug back in the clusters connectors
Also the PCM connector
Battery unhooked of course
Then power back up

Since the cluster is getting power and PCM is booting up I would try Test Mode for the Cluster to see if any B or U codes are set
Read here: http://www.carlogic.org/bg/data/Ford...ler%20mode.pdf
The 2004-2011 HEC clusters have a Test mode
It may have a more specific code than PATS 1:6
i.e.
B2139 PCM ID Does Not Match Between Instrument Cluster and PCM
U1123 SCP Invalid or Missing Data for Odometer
U1147 SCP Invalid or Missing Data for Vehicle Security
