Pilot bearing puller?
:hypnotize Hi. I am in the middle of replacing the clutch in my 93 ranger. I did not have the correct size bearing puller soI used one jaw of a larger one I have. Long story short I destroyed the bearing and all that is left in the crank is the outer race. I need to find a small bearing puller at an auto parts store, as I can not wait for shipping......Anyone have any ideas?

I had the same thing happen to the pilot bearing when i was helping a buddy removing his. We fought with the damn thing forever with just the puller with no success. See if any other parts stores like napa, pep boys, autozone, or advanced have a pilot bearing puller that attaches to a slide hammer and it should pop right out, at least it did for us. 3 hits with the hammer and it was out laying on the ground.

Cool. I already had a larger one, but I was able to pick up a smaller assembly from autozone yesterday. I'll try it out tonight...

I just heard this from a real gear head. Toilet Paper. I havent tried it but here is how its explained to me.
Before you use any tools get some TP. Soak it completly in water. Jam as much in there as you can. Go off and have dinner, get a good nights sleep, wake up and check it. It should be laying on the floor . I am told that as TP dries it swells and pushes the pilot bearing right out. When i have to do another one I am going to try it. It wont happen any time soon but I will try. shag |

Sorry but that's an old joke. The way we used to remove pilot BUSHINGS was to fill the hole as much as possible with wheel bearing grease.Then place a steel rod or punch the same diameter as the tranny input shaft into the bushing and hammer it in.The action of compressing the grease would push out the bushing. |
