Illegal Odometer

hey i was just wondering sompthing.. in my 97 Ranger my interior light was staying on ALL the time i was just getting to work at the time so i didint have time to figure out why (later i figured it was the door assembly and fixed it) so at work i pulled hte fuse and on my way home i nothiced it took out my gauges too. including my odomiter ... it stoped! and when i put the fuse back it started again and it never cought up. isnt that illigal wny would ford make it that easy to do is that the same for all rangers my year??

bye the way i have the fuse back and i only lost about 25 klms (14 miles i think)

For that, you don't need to be worried. 14 miles isn't a functional difference. If you try to sell the vehicle knowing the odometer is really wrong (like, a lot more than that 14 miles), it would be odometer fraud.

Probably. It would have to be, the circuit can't be unprotected. Usually that fuse takes out lots of instrumentation and would make driving kinda difficult so it doesn't happen a lot.

Well changing tire sizes effects your speedo and odometer so that would be the same as odometer fruad. My truck has had oversized tires for the last 80k and I know its underreporting mileage. However with stock tires it would overreport the milage so who benifits there?

It really doesnt matter untill you go to sell it, but AS-IS means just that.

Yah mine has bigger tires, it makes guessin oil changes fun. Also, when i worked on the guages i realized how easy it is to unplug the odometer. ALSO, there is a walkthrough on RPS for changing odometer back to 0 or whatever you want also, but you obviously shouldn't use that for bad.
