Funny noise/vibration when braking

Hi,

as the title describes I'm having some issue where coming to a stop or slowly down a hill, my brakes make a crazy noise/vibration you can hear, and feel through the pedal

I have a 2007 Ranger stock all the way, really; about 90k on it

In the end I've been back and forth with the dealership i bought the truck from used about 4 times now on this same issue., they've not been able to find anything wrong. So here I am hoping this community might be able to point me in the right direction!

Here's the timeline of where I'm at
-2 months ago had front rotors and pads replaced by dealer
-a few days later, noise/vibration made itself obvious, and has for the most part been happening since
-took back to dealer, they took the front brakes apart and confirmed everything looks good
-slightly better for a couple days, but noise/vibration remains, take back to dealer
-dealer doesn't find anything, again
-create video linked below after this point
-take back to dealer, i take tech for ride, able to make the noise once he sorta picks up on it, suggesting it might really be coming from rear
-they check and "service" the rear drums at my cost
-noise remains, can't be bothered to even call the dealer now

this description from this post is pretty much exactly what I'm talking about:
Sometimes I'll be driving and say coming up on a red light or stop sign, and as I start applying the brakes before I make a complete stop I'll hear this grinding sounding like metal on metal. Then it will be fine for awhile maybe couple days, then start grinding again. Like I said pads are brand new rotors were changed about 3 months ago. It happened before I changed the rotors and pads as well but they had plenty of meat and I took it to a brake shop and they couldn't see anything wrong. They even drove it around and braked hard for me but it wouldn't grind for them. It's progressively getting worse.
It mostly seems to occur coming to slow stops or braking slowly down hills,
but It's hard to actually re-create the issue, the dealer tech has not managed too

On my last visit i provided the following video, the sounds not as obvious as I'd hope, but you can make it out (youtube captions help with the timing, the cab is noisy overall of course)


it happens twice in that video - just so happens I end up in traffic on a hill around here and this is the result, somewhat consistently


So a few things to note;

-you can feel it like crazy through the pedal
-as driver or passenger, you really get the feeling the sound is coming from the front left of the truck


that's about all i got today
this evening, I'm going to look at disabling abs to see if that's in fact my issue

I appreciate any ideas you might have!

I'm betting when you pulled the ABS fuse the noise/pulsating stopped. I have the same issue and I don't have the answer yet but I'm leaning to a bad front wheel ABS sensor.

ended up having to pull two fuses both labelled abs on the manual, but it seems to be off now ...the light on the dash is lit along with the parking break light for some reason. Need a few more days to be definitive but at this point it looks to have stopped the problem.

Not sure why you had to pull 2 fuses. There is only 1 ABS fuse (10 Amp) on my 2001, 2 wheel drive. Pulling this fuse disabled my ABS and the brakes work just fine (without ABS of course). ABS light comes on when ignition is turned on, goes off when engine starts, and comes back on when vehicle moves. I believe this is correct. I have been told the sensors can be checked with an ohmmeter for continuity, but as they are reasonably priced I have ordered 2 new ones. They look to be easily replaced (if you can get the old ones out after all these years). I'll post any results good or bad.

Yeah it was a bit strange,
either fuse on it's own didn't cause the abs light to go on (by design?), but once I got both out, it behaves exactly as you describe,


In the end, with a few more days of driving it, I'm very confident the noise/vibration has gone away with abs disabled.

Since my last post I have replaced all 3 sensors. Didn't help. Also when I run a code check I don't get any codes. Once again I have disabled the ABS by pulling the fuse. I have been driving over 50 years most of which I didn't have ABS so no problem without it except it's supposed to be working and isn't. Any new ideas? ABS control module?

Ok I wish I could say I solved this on my own but in the end of a busy summer took it into a ford place last week and they found what they described as the "tone ring" being knocked out of wack causing this issue; I've only gone a few days since but so far so good; I'll post some more detail in the next few days and at that point if it helps I'd be happy to call this service place and ask any more specific questions

the tone ring is what the abs sensor reads

the tone ring is inside the wheel bearing hub assembly , bearing was defective
