No fluid, no brake warning

Hi, POWER brakes failed on the highway this week. Manual braking worked fine, like my first car. Pedal to the floor, It got home fine and i took it easy. there was no fluid warning else I would have towed it home.

I expected to find a vacuum issue but it’s strong. I didn’t even look at fluid. I know the light works because I did a lot of work just a few seasons ago.

Moving it into the garage the brake light finally woke up and came on and the driveway has a fluid puddle.

Why didn’t the brake dash warning light immed? There had to be low fluid, right? I should not have been driving this thing. Something in back probably rusted..
