I have a 95' Ranger and I am trying to install a CB radio in it. I'm having trouble wiring it into my truck. It has a red and black wire. I need to connect the red wire to the fuse block and the black wire to a ground on the truck. I have no idea how to connect the red wire to the fuse block. I'm pretty sure I have the black wire in the right spot. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

 

Depending where your mounting it the black wire goes to a good ground point. One good spot is the cig lighters ground or run it to the ground at either ground point bolts behind the kick panels. Red power wire needs to be connected to accessory power (Cig lighter if you dont use it much) or to battery power depending if you want it to have constant power at all times. You can tap in under the column to the main accessory power coming from the ignition or run a power line back out to the engine compartment and take power from the power junction block...But Make Sure to use a (10 amp Max) fuse inline at the point you connect just in case of a short.

 

you can also go to advacne auto parts, they have a fuse block you can get that you unplug your fuse from your fuse panel and plug this device in, then put the fuse you just pulled into the device, then put another fuse in it for the cb, then run the wire for the cb, i just found this and used it to run a voltmeter, works good so far

Just run it to the battery its alot easier and more effecient.

 

The one draw back of running back to the battery is electrical noise induced into the power feed line. I prefer to keep it short and inside the cab if possible and add a filter if necessary. The other draw back is if your not careful when running the power feed thru the firewall is the possibility of a short down the road from the wire chaffing where it passes thru the firewall.

You can use an "add-a-circuit" to one of your exisisting switched power fuses if the CB doesn't draw much power. Before I got my Alpine radio, I was using this method to power my FM modulator for my Sirius satellite radio off the windsheild wiper fuse.

 

not to steal a thread, but how did you calibrate the radio?? and tune the antenna??
