Icon5 RCD and other questions

Im HOPEFULLY getting the RCD kit for graduation.. but im going to be covering tires and gears..$$$

so here are my questions
1) RCD says 33x1250 for their kit, but i have a BL so 35x1250's should be fine right?

2) Im trying to decide between Wrangler MTR's and BFG MT's, i personally like the looks of the MTRs better, the BFGs are cheaper (+ last longer?) but im willing to spend the extra 40-60 a tire on the Wranglers.. and theres also the Mickey Thompson MTZs for about the same price as the BFGs

3)4.56 vs 4.88 i know its been debated many times on her, but i liked the peppy acceleration of the truck stock, and im going to be spending the next year (atleast) up in Wyoming.. and where would you recommend getting them? i have read 4 wheel parts, yey/ney? and whats a good brand

4) back spacing? what would y'all recommend?

What I'm currently picturing is
4.88s
35x12.50 MTRs, MTs or MTZs
Steelies/Mickey Thompson Classic II's

You can fit 35s no problem.

4.56 or 4.88 is up to you. Both ought to compensate for the gears. It's a matter of whether you want a little extra torque or a little better economy on the highway.

BFG MT's and MTR's are both great tires. You won't be disappointed with either.

Don't get steelies. They look cheap and are heavy as hell. You'll want every bit of fuel economy you can save, and steelies will be two steps in the opposite direction.

2500 rpms in 5th is 75

4.88's and 35s look like
2750 rpms in 5th is 74
.. not too bad

That's not too bad at all. My truck with 31s and 4.10s is about 2700-3k at 75.

there are so many equations to find out the correct gear ratio you would need to retain factory gear ratio. but like gearhead said....the decision between 4.56 and 4.88 is up to you depending on what you want. ive already talked to you about rims and tires. i have never owned the mtrs but i love my mud terrains. you saw them fully tested on sunday. so you know exactly what they will do.

spend the extra for MTR's or BFG's.....

the wheels should be 15x10 w/ a 3.625 backspacing....(i have a set of 15x10 Classic II's for sale if you are interested)....

as far as gearing goes, i would stick with 4.56 gears......there are a number of members who are running 4.56's with 35's.......Scott D. (big04ranger) was running 4.88's with his 37's.....and as far as i can remember he got good milage....so a 4.88 with 35's would put you high in the rpm range.....

buckshots last a while.

personally MTRs. mine hold up well, i have over 20k on them they look great still.

my 4.56s and 35s im running 2600-2700 at 75mph

only reason Kyle's is so much higher is Manual trans.... not sure what you have.

go with Classic IIs, they only make 1 backspacing with the correct lug pattern that works on the ranger they will work great.

btw i got 18mpg on trips with my superlift 35s and 4.56s

i will let my Classic II's go for $280 + shipping.......they only have been used for about 3,000 miles........

i have a manual

anyone else have any opinions on the wheel size? i preferably want the 15x8 so i dont pop a bead as easily on the trails, but the x10 is a better contact patch on the road right?

the 10" is best on the road....and you wont pop a bead as easily as you think with 15x10's.....you will never air a tire down that much........

manual gearing, from talking to ford shop foreman, plus 4.56 = better. the manuals are geared a little lower than automatics from what I understand. manual + 4.88 is still good, but you might suffer with fuel economy. Again from what I understand and have been told. This is for the SOHC though. Not sure about the OHV.

alright guys

the shop said $2700 installed
2100 was the superlift installed(more for installation?)

then they quoted me at $1200 for the gears, master install kits and installation... that seems kind of high, but gears also seem like a pain in the ***

what do yall think? installation is only $500 on the kit, ill do that but do you think the gears are a little steep?

also, im pretty sure about this, but the gears from the 28 spline 8.8 will work on a 31 spline 8.8 right?

My manual tranny with 33's and 4.10's runs 76 mph@3k rpm's. Is that good? lol

I've been getting 14-15 mpg. Leans towards 13mpg with all city miles and 15mpg for all highway. Pretty much sucks anyhow. I could care less about fuel economy though. Otherwise, why would you lift a truck???

It's a dog climbing hills in 5th anymore though
