question about hella lights

is there a noticeable difference between the normal 500's and the newer ones that use a reflector instead of the patterned lense?

like i mean as far as light output goes... is it any better?

Are you talking about the free form ones?

the free form (500FF) have more of a pencil beam, the parabolic (old school) are a wider beam pattern.

i'll confirm HT's answer, yes, the original 500's (made in germany) are better than the new free form ones. more light coverage.

I'm VERY happy with my 500FF's! You can see much farther and turning them out slightly helps cover the ditches. (important here in Wisconsin!)

I also replaced the original bulbs with Sylvania super white somthing or t'other.. that made a big difference!

THe Free Form reflector gathers 29% more light than a parabolic reflector/fluted lense, which is signifcant!
