My son ran his truck thru massive water overflow during a recent storm, now when i crank it, sounds like a rod is coming thru the hood. Can i fix this ? Don't really want to go the "put new motor in" route, would like to fix it myself. If i can fix it myself, how difficult will this be, and is there a website i can go to for engine breakdown with illustrations. I have never went this far into an engine before, but can turn wrenches and have done my share of waterpump, hose, tranny and alt, starter replacements. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Agreed if its already making noises like that the internal damage is already done even if you could rebuild it the block probably is pretty damaged from trying to compress water. Rebuilt or scrap motor would be best bet unfortunately you'd spend way more trying to fix all the little damage and it still may never run right after. It would probably be easier on your wallet to get another one.

fordpartsdiscountoutlet.com for break down and prices for your engine. i rebuilt the lower end on mine for around little over 600. i have a two wheel drive and can take the oil pan off without taking the engine out. its easy if you only have to replace rod bearings.
