Raising breather/vent lines
 

Has anyone raised the breather/vent lines on thier ranger? mainly looking how ya did it for the front diff. and what size tubing did ya'll use?

I know i've seen someone here do it. Can't think of who i but think they both run up into the engine compartment. I would put them in the bed right behind the cab.

Carl and I have both done it, and I think Rand also. I used double layer 1/4" ID tubing for the rear, and the front is about the same -- it's a tight fit over the "barb" so you might want to lube the tubing when you put it on. There's some info on my Cardomain site.

My auto tranny I used 1/2" ID tubing from the vent on top after removing the cap on it. Then I "sleeved" a 1/4" ID tubing into that. Again, pics on my Cardomain site a ways down the first page somewhere.

Sadly, I don't HAVE a front axle!

Make SURE you make a "reverse trap" in the tubing wherever you put the open end by bending it over so the opening faces DOWNWARD. Otherwise, spash and rain (depending on where you put it) can get in it easily.

I have a How To sitting on my computer of this, just need to get it up... but in the mean time John sumed it up quite well.

I did mine a while back. Ran the rear up to the gas filler and the front to the break lines (abs modual to be exact). I'v since relocated them to the engine hoop and bed cage, but most cant do that...

I don't know the tubing size, but it shouldn't be hard to replace at a parts store (vacuum line/brake line, small transmission cooler line, etc). And some hose clamps would be worthwhile to make sure it seals.

I got my rear done haven't gotten to the front axle or tranny yet tho. School takes up too much time.

Tip on the front axle, do it when the truck is absolutly cold. Your hand is wedged between the oil pan to get to the front breather.. it gets warm in there.. dont ask me how I know..

I dont think that will help with the lack of free time, in fact it might make it worse :hump: :tapedshut

Look along the driver's side frame rail in the engine compartment and you should find the little plastic cap attached to a bracket. Follow that to the top of the axle housing (not the axle tube like in the rear) and you'll be in good shape. Don't forget to extend the transfer case too. 1/4" ID is the right stuff for that one too. There's an elbow on it now with a hard plastic tube and cap. Remove the elbow from the t-case and attach the tubing there.
