yeah, i checked everything.. cant hear a leak, everything is connected

it goes from hot to cold. and from high to low. just the location wont change from the defroster. could it be the hvac control module inside the truck

i went and had a guy look at it. he said it looked like all the lines were connected, but he said he thought the problem would be under the radiator overflow tank the windshield washer fluid. said he would charge 25 bucks an hour to fix it i would like to try and fix it myself, if you guys could guide me in the right direction

you may be able to fix it yourself but messing with the ac can be risky. you have to be careful with it and it will need to be recharged after you are done.

cant figure out wuts under the resevoirs. this is a vacuum problem, the problem just needs to be found.

have you checked behind the HVAC itself?(controls in the cab). maybe something was knocked loose.

id double check EVERYTHING. you dont know how well that guy gave your truck a look over. he did suggest something under the overflow tank after all.

youll have to pop the bezel off and remove the radio.

radio can be removed with flathead screwdriver if you know wut youre doing or you can purchase the tools from wal-mart for $10.

99% chance its a vacuum line off, melted etc... most likely under the hood

Could also be a bigger vacuum problem such as a cracked vacuum... resivior (sp?)

Last thing.. a vacuum line could be off in the dash... (unless the dash has been apart I would doubt it)

I had this exact problem.. it was vacuum line off from gay firestone tech...

i dont think its a vacuum line since it ranges from hot to cold and high to low. if it was a vac. line it'll default to defrost heat only. sounds like the blendor isnt moving. i dont know what the newer ranger use for acuation, either cable or some kinda pulse vacuum thing a mig jig but thats what it is.

this makes sense.. so what do i do to fix it? i dont really want to take it some place and get raped on 25 bucks an hour, if i can do it myself

You have a vacuum leak! Any time there is a vacuum leak in the hvac system it defaults to defrost and yes your a/c and heat will still work this way just only on the defrost vents. Your blend door is electronically controled. has nothing to do with the vacuum lines!

well i checked uneder the dash its fine. the guy i had look at it hooked up a pressure guage to the vacuum line, and he said it didnt have enough pressure as it should. he said he could fix it but it would take awhile. he said he thought it was coming from maybe the round ball?

i am 99.9% positive when a vacuum leak is in the system it'll default to full heat defrost only.

but u never did say if the AC did work...but what does that have to do with it or am i missing something here?

It doesnt default to heat. The blend door is seperate and either
manually(cable) or electronically actuated.

The vent control is vacuum actuated and if you have no vacuum it defaults to Defrost. Even if you have it in off.. you will have air coming out defrost going
down the road.
ASK ME HOW I KNOW!. :)

Theres a ball under, where you were talking about. Dont know the name of it right now. But its a sphere, and some how, that stupid ball controls the doors. Mine busted, and had to be replaced.

yep, if youre not getting enough vacuum in the line then that ball has a leak in it somewhere. that means it needs to be replaced.
