Hi All
I am hoping some of you can help a newbie to the forum. I have a 2000 Ranger Extended cab flareside with a 3.0 automatic. Upon acceleration I get a rattling noise of some sort. I have not been able to duplicate this while in park only while driving. Any suggestions where to start?

 

1 Squirrel is tired and underfed.
2 Family pet is still tied to rear bumper
3 Pinging due to cheap MA gas with too much ethanol content.Run higher octane fuel.

Yeah I get the same thing...I have a 2.5 2000 and it happens every now and then in the low and higher rpm's. Been going on for about 3 three years now... Would also like to now what's going on.

 

It could be your exhaust shield.

 

Try to locate where the noise is exactly coming from to narrow down the possibilities. My truck has a lot of rattles mostly cuz of the road vibration from my tires and the crappy Massachusetts roads lol.

 

My buddy had the same thing when his car was driving...was a deeper sounding rattle, it was his U joint....it was almost a popping noise though.

 

My 04 just rattles and squeaks and creeks all over i need to go thru and dismantle it and reassemble with little pieces of cloth to silence the plastic.... Try driving on VA roads sometime you can disappear in the pot holes on the interstate. And every 10 secs the back end hops over....

Oh and i found out the **** in the dash stops the rattles. And the louder the rattles get the more to the right you turn it

 

you could check the heat shield on the cat.. the lousy welds break and the thing will just sit on top ... and rattle....

 

I know I have a rattling heat shield. Hear it every time I close the door. One of these days I'll get under there and find it. It's hard to duplicate by shaking the truck from the underneath.

 

The bottom heat sheild on my cat fell off... haha... hit a bump and didnt hear it rattling anymore... looked in my rear mirror and saw it rolling into a ditch on the side of the road... lmfao

 

LOL! I wish mine would fall off already :)

 

All vehicles come equipped with a noise silencer **** in the middle of the dash.
