Weak climate control air flow

My AC runs cold and my heat is hot on my 07 Ranger, but the air flow is really weak. Even on the max fan setting, it still is barely strong enough to blow a piece of paper around. The local Ford dealer charged me around 500 to replace the fan motor, but it's still pretty weak. Any thoughts on what else it could be? I was thinking maybe a filter issue or something along those lines, but, honestly, I am no technician.

Do you notice any speed change as you turn the fan motor switch from low, medium, high or does it seem to stay the same?

Also, if you paid the Ford Dealer upwards of $500.00 dollars to look into this issue and they have not corrected the problem I would have a talk with the service manager.

Wow. 500 bucks to replace a fan? Even IF that was the fault (which apparently it was not; they should have tested it to see that it did not correct the fault) it was a lot of money to remove the motor/fan, easily removed from the engine compartment with 4 screws, and removing the cruise control actuator (if equiped).

About a 20 minut job to remove it; maybe another 15 minutes to replace the electric motor.

Yep; with all that paid, I'd be having a polite conversation with the service manager.

When the high speed failed on my 2000 ranger, I found that one wire (the high speed) had pulled away from the fan switch connector. By removing the center console/radio bezel, this can be checked. There may be a high speed resister on these models (my 2005 F150 had one) that can prevent the highest speed of the fan motor from working.

Thanks for the tips, guys. And yup, the service manager and I are going to be having a chat this week. Sadly, it's part of a general pattern of behavior at the local Ford Dealer. For instance, I put a new set of tires on after 80k and I was told that a $100 prepaid cash card (rebate) would be arriving in the mail. Two weeks later ,a $65 card shows up. It's not the crime of the century, but it's a nickel and dime racket that makes me think they're dishonest or disorganized. But again, guys, thank you for the replies.

Might want to report them to the local BBB as well.
