On my 1999 Mazda B2500, 2.5L, I have endured an unresolved misfire issue for years. My cousin suggested I replace the coil packs (this Ranger model has 8 spark plugs, 4 on passenger side and 4 on driver's side) which I replaced but misfire is still present. A year or two ago, I noticed an exposed wire on back of electrical connector on rear coil pack. While in CA on vacation, I paid a shady tree mechanic to correct the issue. Unfortunately, he did a **** poor job by swapping out OEM connector with one from the junkyard and spliced a wire by twisting wires and covering with electrical tape. Fast forward to present, a different mechanic in my town looked at it and said the misfire could be caused by the less than ideal wire connection using just electrical tape. While inspecting it, he said one of the wires was sticking out from connector. Wow! Could it be this simple of a fix?
